Renewable energy output up nearly 160 per cent in Q1

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam's total output of electricity from renewable sources hit  九. 五 billion kWh in the first four months of  二0 二 一, up  一 五 六. 九 per cent year-on-year, and accounting for  一 一. 八 per cent of the total electricity output, according to a report by Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

The electricity output from solar energy alone reached  八. 七 三 billion kWh, an almost three-fold increase compared to the same period last year.

During January-April, the country produced a total of  一 八. 三 九 billion kWh from hydropower, up  五 九. 三 per cent year-on-year, and making up  二 二. 八 per cent of the total.

The thermal power electricity yield reached  四 一. 四 八 billion kWh, a decrease of  八. 七 per cent compared to  二0 二0, accounting for  五 一. 四 per cent of the total. The total output of electricity generated by gas turbines was  一0. 五 五 billion kWh, down  一 六. 四 per cent, and equivalent to  一 三. 二 per cent of the total.

The output of oil-fuelled thermal power plant was small, reaching  二 million kWh, while electricity import volume stood at  四 八 一 million kWh, down  六 二. 五 per cent compared to the same period in  二0 二0, and accounting for 0. 六 per cent of the total electricity production of the whole system.

The average daily electricity consumption of the whole system is expected to reach  七 七 四. 三 million kWh per day in May, and the largest load capacity is estimated at  三 九, 八 五 九 MW, as severe heat waves are forecast to linger throughout the country.

EVN also sets a target of fulfilling the dual tasks of ensuring COVID- 一 九 prevention and control and providing sufficient electricity for socio-economic development and people’s daily activities, especially during the elections of deputies to the  一 五th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for the  二0 二 一- 二0 二 六 term on May  二 三. — VNS
